Liz's Playback Theatre (PT) training began in 1992. She is an accredited trainer as designated by the Center for Playback Theatre which has offered trainings in PT by its founders since 1994. She has taught core training through the Center for PT and served on its board. She was invited to contribute a chapter on PT for the 4th edition of a core text in Drama Therapy, Current Approaches in Drama Therapy.
Over the years, Liz has offered PT's unique storytelling approach to group and community building in many contexts, from after school programs to corporate manager skill trainings. She has founded three PT companies in the Chicago area and provided training and mentoring to PT companies throughout the Midwest. Developing the complex skill set required for executing the Conductor role has deeply informed her work in Drama Therapy group
She is currently providing Drama Therapy services to individuals in a private group practice, IMPROVing Life Counseling, Inc. with fellow CIIS alumnus Eric Cho and is Adjunct Professor in Adler University's Masters in Counseling and Art Therapy.

Advanced Elective: Introduction to Playback Theatre

Students learn the method of Playback Theatre, founded by Jonathan Fox with Jo Salas and others. Life stories are shared and then re-enacted spontaneously by a team of actors and a musician. It is an educational and curative form of theatre, now practiced in community settings worldwide in more than 50 countries. Students practice roles of conductor and musician as well as actor, paying attention to positive group process and studying basic theory, including the relationship of playback theatre to therapeutic practice. Playback forms taught include fluid sculptures, pairs, and full stories.
